Author Guidelines

The Journal of Biological Research Communication (JBRC) publishes original, high-quality research in biological and life sciences. Authors are requested to read the following instructions carefully before preparing and submitting manuscripts. Submissions that do not comply with these guidelines may be returned for revision prior to peer review.


1. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

JBRC considers the following categories:

  • Original Research Articles

  • Review Articles

  • Short Communications

  • Case Studies

  • Methodological Papers

All submissions must present original work that has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere.


2. Language and General Presentation

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear and concise English.

  • Either British or American English may be used consistently.

  • Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to seek professional language editing prior to submission.


3. Manuscript Formatting Requirements

3.1 Text Formatting

  • Font: Times New Roman

  • Font size: 12-point

  • Line spacing: Double-spaced

  • Margins: 2.5 cm (1 inch) on all sides

  • Alignment: Justified

  • Page numbering: Bottom right corner

  • Line numbering: Continuous line numbering throughout the manuscript (mandatory)


3.2 File Format

  • Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format only.

  • Do not submit PDF files for initial submission.


4. Structure of the Manuscript

Manuscripts should be arranged in the following order:

4.1 Title Page

The title page must contain:

  • Full title of the manuscript (concise and informative)

  • Short running title (maximum 60 characters)

  • Full names of all authors

  • Author affiliations with department, institution, city, and country

  • Corresponding author details (email address and affiliation)


4.2 Abstract

  • Length: 200–250 words

  • Structure: Single paragraph

  • Content: Brief background, objectives, methods, key results, and conclusions

  • Avoid references and abbreviations in the abstract


4.3 Keywords

  • Provide 4–6 keywords

  • Keywords should not repeat words from the title

  • Arrange keywords in alphabetical order


4.4 Main Text

The main text should be divided into the following sections:

Introduction

  • Provide background and rationale

  • Clearly state the objectives or hypotheses

  • Avoid extensive literature review

Materials and Methods

  • Provide sufficient detail for reproducibility

  • Mention ethical approvals where applicable

  • Include statistical analysis methods

Results

  • Present results clearly and logically

  • Avoid interpretation of results

  • Do not duplicate data in text and tables/figures

Discussion

  • Interpret results in relation to previous studies

  • Explain significance and limitations

  • Avoid repetition of results

Conclusion

  • Summarize key findings

  • Highlight implications and future directions


5. Tables and Figures

5.1 Tables

  • Tables should be numbered consecutively (Table 1, Table 2, etc.)

  • Provide a clear and concise title above each table

  • Tables must be editable (not images)

  • Avoid vertical lines


5.2 Figures

  • Figures should be numbered consecutively (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.)

  • Submit figures as separate files in TIFF, JPEG, or PNG format

  • Minimum resolution: 300 dpi

  • Avoid dark or black backgrounds

  • Ensure text and symbols are legible


6. Units, Abbreviations, and Nomenclature

  • Use SI units throughout the manuscript

  • Define abbreviations at first mention

  • Scientific names must be italicized and written in full at first mention


7. Reference Style (APA Style – Mandatory)

JBRC follows the APA (7th edition) reference style.

7.1 In-text Citations

  • Single author: (Kumar, 2021)

  • Two authors: (Singh & Sharma, 2020)

  • Three or more authors: (Verma et al., 2019)


7.2 Reference List

  • List references alphabetically by first author’s surname

  • Use hanging indentation

  • Include DOI wherever available

8. Ethical Requirements

8.1 Research Ethics

  • Studies involving humans or animals must have prior ethical approval

  • Ethical approval details must be stated in the manuscript

8.2 Plagiarism

  • JBRC follows a strict zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism

  • Manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software

  • Similarity index should generally be below acceptable limits


9. Authorship and Contributions

  • All listed authors must have made significant contributions

  • Authorship changes after submission require written consent from all authors

  • A brief Author Contributions statement may be included


10. Conflict of Interest

Authors must declare any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest. If none, state:

“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”


11. Funding Statement

All sources of funding must be clearly acknowledged. If no funding was received, state:

“This research received no external funding.”


12. Before Submission Checklist

Authors should ensure:

  • Manuscript follows formatting guidelines

  • Line numbering is enabled

  • References are in APA style

  • Figures and tables are properly cited

  • Ethical statements are included

  • Manuscript is not under review elsewhere


13. Submission Process

  • All manuscripts must be submitted through the online submission system

  • Authors must register and log in to submit manuscripts

  • Complete all metadata fields accurately


14. Peer Review Process

  • JBRC follows a single-blind peer review

  • Reviewers and authors remain anonymous

  • Editorial decisions include: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject


15. After Acceptance

  • Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting and typesetting

  • Proofs are sent to the corresponding author for final corrections

  • Only minor corrections are allowed at proof stage


16. Publication and Open Access

  • Articles are published online with free and permanent access

  • Authors retain copyright while granting publishing rights to the journal


17. Post-Publication Responsibility

  • Authors are responsible for the accuracy of published content

  • Corrections or retractions will be issued when necessary
